Food Packaging Program

Our core program that brings volunteers together to package nutritious meals

Volunteer-Powered Meal Packaging

Our Food Packaging Program is the heart of Kids Against Hunger. Volunteers of all ages gather at satellite locations across the United States and Canada to package highly nutritious, vitamin-enriched meals that are distributed to hungry children and families worldwide.

During a typical 2-hour packaging event, volunteers work in teams to mix dry ingredients, weigh and seal meal packages, and prepare boxes for shipping. It's a fun, engaging activity that provides meaningful service opportunities for families, churches, schools, businesses, and community groups.

  • Open to volunteers of all ages (children, teens, adults)
  • 2-hour packaging sessions
  • No experience necessary
  • Great for team building and community service
  • Each volunteer packages approximately 200+ meals

How It Works

From volunteer packaging to children's plates

1

Volunteer Assembly

Groups of volunteers gather at satellite locations for packaging events. Teams work together to mix ingredients and package meals.

2

Ingredient Mixing

Dry ingredients (rice, soy, vegetables, and vitamin mix) are carefully measured and combined according to our nutritional formula.

3

Quality Control

Meals are weighed, sealed in specialized bags, and inspected. Each bag is marked with packaging date and batch number.

4

Distribution Planning

Meals are allocated for distribution. Typically, 2/3 go internationally and 1/3 stays local for food shelves and families in need.

5

Partner Coordination

We work with trusted feeding partners including churches, nonprofits, and government agencies to ensure proper distribution.

6

Global Shipping

Meals are shipped to destinations worldwide. Partners document distribution and provide testimonials and photos of recipients.

Our Distribution Model

Reaching children locally and globally

International Distribution

International Food Aid (2/3)

Approximately two-thirds of our meals are shipped internationally to children and families in need across 65+ countries. We work with trusted partners who ensure meals reach those who need them most.

Local Distribution

Local Food Distribution (1/3)

About one-third of our meals stay local, distributed to food shelves and families in need within the communities where they were packaged. This ensures immediate impact at home.

Disaster Relief

Disaster Relief Efforts

When disasters strike, we mobilize quickly to provide emergency food aid. From earthquake relief in Haiti to hurricane response in the Gulf Coast, we're there when children need us most.

Additional Programs

Expanding our impact beyond meal packaging

Comprehensive Hunger Relief

While our food packaging program is central to our mission, we also support additional initiatives through our partners:

  • De-worming Programs: Treating intestinal parasites in Liberia and other affected regions
  • Malnutrition Treatment: Peanut-based nutrition programs for severe acute malnutrition
  • Education Support: Schools and safehouses in Malawi and other countries
  • Family Reunification: Programs helping reunite families in Haiti
  • Ministry Training: Supporting local leaders in communities we serve

These complementary programs help address the root causes of hunger and create lasting change in the communities we serve.
